COA’s Monthly Men’s Breakfast Facilitates Positive Interactions

Certified by the American Medical Directors Association, James D. Tollman, MD, is the president of Essex Inpatient Physicians. A veteran who served in the Medical Corps., Dr. James D. Tollman regularly gives talks at the Georgetown Council on Aging (COA). He has given a talk there every year since 2009.

The COA’s goal is to support the elderly as they age. It does this by providing cultural, social, and informational programs. In 2019, COA served 11,695 individuals, up from 10,476 in 2018. These seniors benefited from programs that included weekly yoga, strength training, and Tai Chi, as well as a monthly Men’s Breakfast.

The Men’s Breakfast program invites seniors to enjoy a hearty breakfast in the company of each other while learning from speakers about health and wellness, Medicare, Veterans’ issues, and current events. In 2019, 221 men between the ages of 58 and 95 attended the breakfast program, up from 181 in 2018. New participants join the group every month, establishing beneficial friendships in their golden years and learning about issues that affect them. COA staff also use these meetings to identify unfulfilled needs among senior men.
